Sleeping while cooking, What????!!!!! No that is not what I mean. Think of it this way you get home, your tired all you want to do is go to bed, but you know you need to cook dinner for your family, what do you do? I know you are saying get take out, but our family is vegan and gluten free, that limits the amount of resturants we can go to and almost none that deliver. Lets say you do order take out, but what if funds are limited that week, well it’s back to cooking for you. So what do you do, what do you make that is fast and delious, a sandwhich, maybe, a frozen dinner possibly, or do you get someone else to cook, you could, but what if its just you and your kids. Now granted my son who is nine has been known to cook dinner for the family to help out, but in most cases a nine year old boy is not getting in the kitchen to cook dinner.
Well I have been in that situation many times, tired and sometimes with a migrane. So what have I done, well some times I let the oven do the work for me and roast vegtables, and you say but you still have to cut up the vegtables, true or some supermarkets have vegetables already cut up. Or I make rice, throw some vegetables and seasonings in a pan and stir them together. You could do veggie burgers and meatless hot dogs and let the oven do the work. You could get the family to help you put together a simple meal. Either way, there are avenues to take to get a simple meal on the table when you are tired. You can just boil some potatoes and everyone pick their toppings. For kids you could give them a bowl of cereal. You won’t be tired forever, but for that one night you are, there are options.
I find that creativy helps in these situations. You could use this as a challenge or quest to make the great meal that is still yummy. Just as a side note, you can make all your meals on one day and freeze them and then you can just pull out the meal you want when you are tired. The way I would do it, is to prepare the meal up to the point of cooking and then on the night I needed it, I would finish cooking the meal. The point is, there is a way to have a nutritious and great tasting meal even when your tired and don’t feel like cooking and you don’t have to get take out, and then you know whats in you food. So the next time you are tired and would rather sleep than cook, how will you meet the challange to make a quick, and fantastic tasting meal?!
