Its the Life not so much the Style

Inevitably, when one switches from being a meat eater to being vegan, a common statement is “Oh I can’t give up my meat!” Well I agree…. I too was a meat eater for many years and I loved my meat and no one is ready to give up anything, until they are READY. Although a series of events lead my family to becoming vegan, at that point in my life I was ready for the transition. Now when I was in high school and tried being a vegetarian  for two weeks, I obviously was not ready then.

My personal view of being vegan, it is a lifestyle not a diet.  Looking at being vegan as lifestyle instead of a diet, gives one the opportunity to transition at their own pace. As with life there are mistakes and accidents, so if you ate something that you were not suppose its not the end of life, its part of you living life and making your own choices. Whereas if you are on a diet, you feel you have messed up and have to start over, you end up feeling restricted, and are looking forward to losing the weight so you can go back to your regular diet. Living a vegan lifestyle, means enjoying what you are eating, trying new foods and ways of cooking them. It means you can create comfort food, it just won’t have meat, dairy or eggs in them. It gives you the opportunity to try new  herbs and spices.

So if your life is vegan but your style is grilling, then get out there and see how many vegetables you can grill. If your style is making casseroles then see how many different combinations of vegetables you can put into a casserole. If you are more of an “on the go” type of person then see how many sandwiches or wraps you can make with vegetables AND fruits. My daughter made one with lettuce, carrots and strawberries. If you don’t have a style, you now have freedom to figure one out.
